On this evening, Eva Ursprung and Günter Eisenhut will report
about the Sacred Grove of Oshogbo and Susanne Wenger's work
there, and about their personal encounters with the artist.
Photographs and video material will be shown, in oder to experience
Susanne Wenger, who moved from Graz to Nigeria in 1950, and
her work in the artistic and spiritual environment there.

Susanne Wenger was born in Graz in 1915 and emigrated to
Nigeria in 1950. Wenger turned to the indigenous Yoruba religion,
adopted the name of Adunni Olurisa and subsequently even became
a Yoruba priestess. Together with local artists, she created partly
monumental sculptures in the Sacred Grove of Oshogbo, which has
been part of the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage since 2005.
Susanne Wenger passed away in Oshogbo at the age of 94 in
early 2009. Since 2016, a path in the Graz City Park has been
named after the artist.
