focused on researching the notion of the horizon as a physical, and metaphorical
site. Through walking and wandering, he explored what it means to be temporarily
situated in a new
place, the phenomenology of discovering new city views, and how these
reflect through working images and creative writing.
The artist will also talk about his practice through a selection of previous
projects as part of a larger body of work that researches the notions
of daydreaming and longing. In the talk, he will also touch on the idea
of having a dialogue with the city and what kind of horizon this exchange
might reveal. At the end of the artist talk, a participatory action will
take place, during which the audience will be asked to respond to the
prompt “Imagine a horizon that left you astonished”.
The artist talk will be accompanied by a pop-up exhibition presenting
some new works. While staying in Graz, Darko Aleksovski continued working
on a large-scale embroidery piece that was produced and first exhibited
during the
EX-SITU / IN-SITU project at < rotor >. This process superimposes
a new embroidery drawing over the previous one in a way that indicates
objects and perspectives that are disorienting. In addition to this, visual
notes in the form
of sketches and studies on paper will also be exhibited. Darko Aleksovski is a visual artist based in Veles, North
Macedonia, and is currently spending a two-month residency in Graz in
the frame of the
Styria-Artist-in-Residence (St.A.i.R.) programme by the Styrian
Government.
